India won the toss and decided to bat first. Coming to bat, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a good start. Both scored runs while maintaining a run rate of around 7.5 with the bat.

In the sixth over of the match, both the batsmen badly washed Lahiru Kumara and scored 23 runs in this over, which included Rohit’s 1 six and Shubhman Gill’s brilliant 4 fours. By the end of the first power play (10 overs), India scored 75 runs without losing a wicket.

After Rohit’s dismissal, Virat Kohli came on the field and started leading the innings with Shubman. Meanwhile, Shubhman Gill completed his half-century in the 19th over. He completed 50 runs in 52 balls.

Both the batsmen were pushing the score at a run rate above 6. The 50-run partnership between the two was completed in the 23rd and by then the team’s score was 149 for one wicket.

Virat Kohli’s Half Century & Shubhman Gill’s Century –

Virat Kohli completed his half-century by taking 1 run on the 5th ball of the 31st over, while on the last ball of 31st over, Shubhman Gill also completed his century.

Virat Kohli completed his half-century in 48 balls. This was his 65th ODI half-century while Shubman Gill completed his century in 87 balls. This was Shubman Giil’s second ODI century, before that he had scored a century against Zimbabwe. By the end of 31, India’s total had increased by one wicket to 202.

Virat completed 150 runs in 106 balls. Virat Kohli did not get out till the end and returned to the pavilion after scoring 166 not out in 110 balls. Virat also hit 13 fours and 8 sixes in this huge innings and the team’s score reached 390 runs in 50 overs.

India scored 58 runs in their last 5 overs and 116 runs in their last 10 overs at a run rate of 11.6.

None of the bowlers from Sri Lanka proved to be effective. For Sri Lanka, Kasoon Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara took 2–2 wickets while Karunaratne took one wicket.
