In the ninth match of Women’s T20 World Cup, India defeated West Indies by 6 wickets, West Indies had set a target of 119 runs in front of India, which India achieved with 10 balls to play.

The ninth match of the Women’s T20 World Cup was played today between the women’s teams of India and West Indies at Newlands Stadium Cape Town.  West Indies captain Heyley Matthews won the toss and elected to bat first.

Batting first, West Indies scored 118 runs in 20 more games and gave India a target of 119 runs to win.

Chasing a target of 119 runs, the Indian team achieved the target in 18.2 overs losing 4 wickets and won the match by 6 wickets.

Indian bowler Deepti Sharma, who took 3 wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs, was given the Player of the Match award.

The West Indies chose to bat first, with Captain Heyley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor taking the field as openers. But Captain Matthews got out in the very second over. She scored only 2 runs.

Shemaine Campbelle, who came in after his dismissal, along with Stafanie Taylor propelled the West Indies innings and put on a big partnership.

West Indies played cautiously and scored 29 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first 6 overs of the powerplay.

Both batters took the partnership forward and completed the partnership of 50 runs for the second wicket in 55 balls and by the end of 10 overs, they had scored 53 runs for one wicket without losing any other wicket.

West Indies’ 100 runs were completed in the 17th over, West Indies took 101 balls to reach their 100 runs and during this they lost 4 wickets.

West Indies scored 118 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs and set a target of 119 runs for India to win.

Stafanie Taylor, Shemaine Campbelle and Chedean Nation top-scored for the West Indies, scoring 42, 30 and 21 respectively.

Deepti Sharma was the top wicket-taker for India, taking 3 wickets while dismissing Stafanie Taylor and Shemaine Campbelle in a big partnership. Apart from them Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar took 1-1 wickets.

Opening for India, Shaifali Verma and Smriti Mandhana gave a good start to the team, both the batters adding 32 runs while scoring fast.  On the score of 32 runs, Smriti Mandhana became the victim of bowler Ramharack after scoring 10 runs.

The power play spell was good for India, taking advantage of the power play, India lost only 2 wickets in the first 6 overs and added 42 runs quickly.

By the end of 10 overs, India had scored a total of 68 runs losing 3 wickets. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was playing with 14 runs and her teammate Richa Ghosh was playing with 9 runs.

In the 14th over, both the batsmen completed their 50-run partnership and for this both faced a total of 43 balls.

India’s 100 runs were completed in the 15th over, for which the team played a total of 92 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur Richa Ghosh was still batting on the field.

Richa Ghosh did not get out till the end and with her help the Indian team achieved the target of 119 runs in 18.2 overs with 10 balls to spare. India won the match by 6 wickets losing 4 wickets.

Richa Ghosh scored the most runs for India, she scored a brilliant 44 runs in just 32 balls with the help of 5 fours. Apart from them, captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 33 and opener Shefali Verma scored 28 runs.
