South Africa beat New Zealand by 65 runs in the seventh match of the Women’s T20 World Cup played at Boland Park today.

Today the seventh match of the Women’s T20 World Cup was played between South Africa and New Zealand at Boland Park, Paarl. South African captain Sune Luus won the toss and elected to bat first.

Batting first, South Africa scored 132 runs for the loss of 6 wickets and set a target of 133 runs for victory in front of New Zealand.

Chasing 133 runs, New Zealand’s batting completely disintegrated and the entire team was all out for 67 runs in 18.1 overs.

South African all-rounder batsman Chloe Tryon was awarded the Player of the Match for her all-round performance. She contributed 40 runs for Team Africa during the crisis and also got two important wickets in bowling.

Put in to bat, South Africa did not get off to a good start as their first two batsmen were dismissed for just 3 and 13 runs.

After initial jitters, skipper Suni Luus along with Laura Wolvadaart handled the innings and pulled the team out of trouble. Together they collected 44 runs in 6 overs of the powerplay.

By 10 overs, South Africa had lost their four important wickets for 62 runs. South Africa completed their first 50 runs in 42 balls, while 100 runs in 92 balls.

In the last over, Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk took the team’s score to 132 runs and set Ireland a target of 133 runs to win.

For South Africa, Chloe Tryon, Nadine de Klerk and Sunny Luce scored 40, 28 and 22 respectively.

For New Zealand, Eden Carson and Lee Tuhuhu took 2–2 wickets, while Heyley Jensen took one wicket.

New Zealand, who came with the intention of winning, had a very bad start, the team’s account was not yet open when New Zealand’s first wicket fell in the form of Bernadine Bezuidenhout.

Captain Sophia Devine scored the most runs for New Zealand, she scored only 16 runs, apart from her Amelia Carr scored 10 and Jess Kerr scored 11 runs. The rest of the players could not even touch the double figure.
