The women’s South African team defeated the West Indies women’s team in the second t20 played at Buffalo Park in East London today.

In today’s match, South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first. South Africa, electing to bowl first, scored 141 runs in 20 overs.

In response to 142 runs, the Windies women’s team could only manage 97 runs in the stipulated 20 overs and lost the match by 44 runs.

South African openers Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch got off to a good start. Wolvaardt batted quickly and took advantage of the powerplay, scoring 28 runs in the first 4 overs.

South African’s first wicket fell in the form of Anneke Bosch at the score of 27 runs. Anneke Bosch scored 9 runs and was caught out by Shamilla Connell.

For second wicket, Marizanne Kapp along with Laura Wolvaardt started the team’s score moving forward and added quick runs. Both added 31 runs together and Laura Wolvaardt was caught out by Shabika Gajnabi after scoring 25 runs.

After the dismissal of Laura Wolaardt, South African Captain Sunne Luus came on the field and along with Marizanne Kapp started to lead the African innings. Both the batter added quick runs and meanwhile Marizanne Kapp also completed her half-century.

There was a 63-run partnership between the two. Captain Sunne Luus was dismissed for 121 runs in the 18th over. Haylay Matthews runout her for an individual score of 30 runs.

Marizanne Kapp was also dismissed on the last ball of the same over. Haylay Metthews gets her caught by Shabika Gajnabi. Kapp contributed 52 runs with the help of 5 fours. Chloe Tryon was dismissed as the fifth wicket. She was clean bowled by Shamilla Connell in the last over.

The South African women’s team scored 141 runs losing 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and set a target of 142 runs in front of the West Indies team.

To achieve the target of 142 runs, the openers of the West Indies women’s cricket team gave a good start to the team. Openers Halylay Matthews and Britney Coopers added 32 runs for the first wicket, scoring 35 runs.

In the sixth over, Masabata Klass got Brittany Coopers caught out. Coopers scored 15 runs with the help of 3 fours before getting out.

As soon as Coopers was dismissed, the WIndies run rate slowed down and in a span of 2 runs, the Windies team lost 3 wickets.

Rashada Williams was run out for 42 in the 9th over and Haylay Metthews and Shabika Gajnabi were also run out for 43 respectively. Both the players were dismissed by Masabata Klass.

After first 10 overs, the Windies team’s score was 45 for 4 wickets. After this, it seems that there was a brake on the pace of runs.

In the 13th over, Shemaine Campbelle also returned to the pavilion after getting out on an individual score of 11 runs. She was caught by Chloe Tryon on her own ball.

In the 15th over, the sixth wicket of the Windies team fell in the form of Chedean Nation. She was clean bowled by Mlaba on an individual score of 6 runs.

After 15 overs, the Windies team was on 70 for 6 and now the Windies team needed 72 runs from 30 balls to win. Which was now looking difficult for the WIndies team.

The African bowlers continued their tight bowling and did not give any chance to the Windies batsmen to score runs.

Shamilla Connell was also dismissed in the 18th over. She scored 15 runs and was clean bowled by Ayabonga Khaka. Afy Fletcher was also dismissed for 90 runs in the 19th over. She was clean bowled by Masabata Klass.

Along with this, the South African women bowlers stopped the WIndies women’s team for 97 runs and won the match by a huge margin of 44 runs.
