Delhi Capitals registered a resounding victory in the second match played in the Women’s Premier League on Sunday, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by a huge margin of 60 runs. RCB won the toss and asked Delhi Capitals to bat first. Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning shared a 162-run partnership for DC’s opening partnership, which helped Delhi post 223 for 2. In reply, Royal Challengers Bangalore could only manage 163 runs for 8 wickets. USA star Norris took five wickets in WPL.

Shafali-Lanning partnership

After India’s defeat to Australia in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning shared a brilliant 162-run partnership to take Delhi Capitals to a big score. Disheartened by India’s defeat, Shafali put up a brilliant display with the bat in her debut match in the WPL, scoring 84 off 41 balls, which included 10 fours and four sixes. Lanning, on the other hand, played his favorite cuts and sweeps to score 72 off 39 balls. The duo’s partnership took a beating from the Royal Challengers’ bowling and helped Delhi reach their second 200-plus score of the tournament.

Tara Norris wins PoTM Award

Tara Norris contributed significantly to DC’s victory by taking 5 wickets against RCB and won the player of the match award. She dismissed the top order players of RCB and sent Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh, Heather Knight, Disha Kasat and Kaniya Ahuja to the pavilion.

Bad batting from Royal Challengers

Although Royals challenger Bangalore had a formidable batting lineup in the form of Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry and Heather Knight to chase down the target, they failed to live up to the expectations and only Mandhana and Knight were able to make some contribution. Both were able to score only 35 and 34 runs respectively. Tara Norris, the only Associate player of the tournament, was exceptional with the ball as she took five wickets in her 4-over spell to restrict the Royal Challengers to a mammoth total of 163.

Great collective performance by Delhi Capitals

The pair of Jemimah Rodrigues and Marijan Kapp ensured that the run rate did not drop as soon as they came on the field. This resulted in both scoring quick runs in the end overs and helping Delhi Capitals cross the 200-run mark. Kapp scored 39 runs in 17 balls and did not spare any RCB bowler. She hit all the bowlers for fours and sixes, targeting Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt and Heather Knight. While making her WPL debut, USA pacer Tara Norris shone with the ball, taking five wickets including that of Sophie Devine and Ellyse Perry to help Delhi register a big win.
